Clearly June has been a bit more of an anomaly month than the others so far.
Of the five weeks within the month, only three of the weeks have been logged with measurable data.
This disrupted activity was always anticipated. With a schedule of a domestic landscaping project and a trip abroad, those two events alone accounted for a baseline of two weeks that were going to be disruptive to the routine.
Fortunately the groundwork from the previous months had established good behaviours, habits and awareness to stay on relatively on track even in scenarios of less focus and without the quantitive support of journaled activity.
Ultimately I’m realising that adherence to any longer term dietary strategies, unless you have the bloody mindedness of an ultra marathon runner, requires an acceptance of the non linear flow of life. Some weeks can just make your careful routine go awry, so you rely on the simple habits and carefully nurtured behaviours to maintain a degree of navigation through the wonky waters of living your life.
I once read that the difference between focused athletes and ‘normal’ people is their ability to get straight back on track following the inevitable disruptions that come along. Even the most diligent can be derailed by illness, injury, relationship challenges, family obligations or natural disasters. The differentiator is simply how quickly you can get back on course.
June had various priorities that dominated attention in one way or another yet I’m comfortable that we’ve fundamentally remained on course, despite the odd twists and turns.
As we roll into July and with the context of anticipating disruptions, the timing seemed good to explore a new mini project Throughout the month I will be using the trial period of Precision Nutrition’s Procoach to see how technology integrates with this kind of process and whether a sophisticated App can really surpass the functionality of a pen and a printed sheet of paper.
